If you love fish then you probably know all you need about aquariums and accessories. But for those new to fish ownership, here are some basic aquarium accessories that you will need for your new friend.

To Help Keep the Tank Clean

There are some fish, such as the Siam fighting fish, that don’t need a filter. Most however need a filter attached to the fish tank to help remove dirt, such as excess food and organic matter. The type of filter you will need will vary depending on the type of tank you have. You can also buy a snail to help keep the glass clean.

For the Bottom of the Tank

Gravel is ideal for covering the bottom of your fish tank in a small layer. It will help to collect dirt that the filter doesn’t pick up. It is also a great way to anchor other accessories, such as fake plants and grasses that you want to put into the tank. Speaking of accessories, decorate the tank with whatever you like. Fish love places to hide, so long grasses and reeds, and treasure chests and castles are great and look cute. There are many different websites like ebayclassifieds where you can look for great places to get these necessary accessories.

Lighting for Your Tank

As already mentioned, the Siam fighting fish doesn’t need a filter; however they do need lighting and potentially a heat lamp to keep the water at a certain temperature. Always research the type of fish you want.  This way you will know if you need to set up a specific environment for it.

These are just some of the basics to getting your aquarium set up.

Greyhounds make great pets too

Pets are a wonderful part of many people’s lives. They bring joy and unconditional love to many who otherwise may not get it from humans.

But did you know that just as an elderly person needs taking care of, so does an aging pet? Here are some things to keep in mind if your pet is getting on in years.

  • Take note if your pet is sleeping a lot, or not moving around as much as what he or she used to. A lack of movement and tiredness could show that your pet is suffering from arthritis. Also be mindful of extreme weather, and keep your pet cool or warm when required.
  • A diet for an elderly pet is much different to a younger pet. Most domestic pet food brands have specific formulas for senior pets. The specific ingredients will promote healthy skin and teeth and support bowel and urinary health. It also helps weight management.
  • Speaking of healthy skin, if your pet has fur be sure to give it a regular brush. It not only helps to keep up the coat and give it shine, but it can help to detangle knots on animals with longer fur. Removing of excess fur can also aid against furballs, which is something that older pets are susceptible to.
  • If you are thinking of bringing another pet into the family, doing it when your pet is a senior is perfect timing. For example an elderly dog will feel energized by a puppy. The playfulness and enthusiasm will actually help to prolong the older dogs life.

Pets become members of a family in many instances. TReat them like any other elderly person and they will have a happy life.
